A Chat with the Author

Our discussion was interesting and I believe all the young ladies helped and encouraged each other.

These are three of my new "children". Anyone that knows me, knows that all young ladies I meet, become one of the children that God has placed in my heart (This is Caleb, Vera, and Darlene).

The young ladies were expressive regarding their concerns, their struggles and the things important to their hearts. They listened intently and were ready with raised hands to answer questions (Ramona's hand is raised and ready to share).

This was one of the young ladies I met at the party, however she like the other's have become dear to my heart. Whenever the Lord allows some young lady to come my way, I take it seriously that they are my responsiblity to pray for and the encourage.

James: How was the first, Meet the Author event?

Jewel: I first want to say that I pray I was an encouragement to all of the young ladies that came to share. The adults, myself and Micole Jenkins really facilitated them so that they could freely share what was on their hearts. I do know that I was greatly encouraged by them.

James: What information did you find out that was related to your book?

Jewel: Without sharing the details of our conversation, I found out that our young ladies are truly looking to live for Christ. They want to do this thing right and they want us to tell them how did we make it through our teen years. I found out that what touched each girl the most was the first chapter and from there they wanted to hear what I had to say. I also thought, our young people are in some fiery furnaces.

James: Would you do another event?

Jewel: I actually look forward to what God will do going forward. With this group, we will get together again to finish up the book. What I believe is most important is they feel they have an atmosphere where they can express what is on their hearts. So even if we don't stick completely to the book, but the things on their heart are addressed, then my job has been done.

James: This sounds like helping young ladies find their purpose is important to you.

Jewel: More than I can even express in words. I believe God allowed me to go through the things I did in my life because he knew on April 25th, there were going to be some young ladies waiting for me to share my life so that theirs could be a little better. Just as some day in the future each of these young ladies has an appointed time where God will need them to show up and make a difference. So yes, I am quite excited when I can help anyone on this path.
