Teaching Notes

Is wisdom only for the older ones, or does God promise to help all that come to him? Even these little ones can understand the mysteries of God if they come with a willing heart to learn. Let us come today with a willing heart to learn.

What Should I know About Jesus?
Genesis 1:26-28 (The Message)

26-28 God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God's nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth."

Notes: For the next few weeks I want us to talk about what we believe and why. If you are not sure of what you believe and why, you can easily be fooled or deceived with every whim of doctrine that comes along. This week we will look at what we should know about Jesus. We will discuss the "Partical Jesus" belief. This is the belief that Jesus was not fully human and fully God. (Note. A good book to get to help you along with your Bible study is a book by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler called "Don't Check Your Brains at the Door")

Question: What does this scripture in Genesis prove to us?

Answer: God is having a conversation and he says, let "us" make man in our image. Who is the us? It is the Triune God. That is just a fancy word for the trinity or 3-in-1. That does not mean that there were three different God's in heaven but that God consist of three distinct parts, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The easy was to understand that is to look at your family. Whatever the number of people in your family, you are ONE family. Each of you are a unique person in that family and you play a key role to the family. You are not less important than another part of the family you are just different. Yet all of you together make up the one family. That is the same for the Triune God.

Each person in the trinity is equal and have different and unique roles, but each one helps to make up the entire Godhead. So the Triune God decided to make man in his image. Be careful when you read the words "godlike". This does not mean you and I are gods, but that we have unique characteristics that are like God. There is no other animal created that has these attributes. Man is unique in the ability to have some of these attributes. We are able to think and reason and we do not simply move on impulses and by instinct. We are creative and can create things. This is another one of the attributes given to us by God. So the first thing you must believe about Jesus is, that he has always been. Jesus is one with the Father and the Spirit. The three are one. So Jesus is completely and fully divine.

Prayer: Lord help me today to understand that Jesus is one in the Godhead. Help me to grasp that he is fully divine. Help me to understand this and be convicted in my spirit of this truth.
