Teaching Notes

Have you seen this picture?  Is it real?  Is it a real place?  I don't know.  However what I do know is this, no matter how large a face we carve in the side of the mountains, it can never be more breath taking than seeing the face of God.

Things About God
"He is True"

Jeremiah 10:10 (The Message)

10 But God is the real thing— the living God, the eternal King. When he's angry, Earth shakes. Yes, and the godless nations quake.

Notes: Jeremiah was a prophet from the Old Testament and he continually spoke God's word to the children of Israel.  His purpose was the correct the people and turn them back to God's ways. God told the people through Jeremiah if they did not repent (ask for forgiveness of their sins) he would allow them to go into captivity in Babylon.  And that is just what God did because they people did not return to him.

Question: What message is the prophet trying to give to the people in this verse?

Answer: He is telling the people that God is real.  There is no one like him.  He can move the earth with his wrath and make the godless shake.  God is the real thing.  He is not an image sitting on a side table without life.  He is alive.  What Jeremiah is trying to help the people understand is that God is true.  He will not continue to allow foolishness to go unanswered.  Nor will he allow his children to go unprotected.  Today we can rejoice and know that God will take care of us and that his ways are good and true.

Prayer: Lord, today we needed to be reminded that you are true and that you will take care of your children.  You will protect us, you will keep us and you continue to direct our path.  You are the one and only TRUE God.
