But Who Am I?
Exodus 3:9-12 (The Message)
The Israelite cry for help has come to me, and I've seen for myself how cruelly they're being treated by the Egyptians. It's time for you to go back: I'm sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the People of Israel, out of Egypt." Moses answered God, "But why me? What makes you think that I could ever go to Pharaoh and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?" "I'll be with you," God said. "And this will be the proof that I am the one who sent you: When you have brought my people out of Egypt, you will worship God right here at this very mountain."
Note: God has spoken to Moses and given him a great assignment to go to Pharaoh and ask him to release the people of God. Moses listens to the assignment, but his response is "But why me?" or in another version "Who am I?"
Question: Why do you think Moses asked this question?
Answer: Moses was looking at what he thought to be his limitations. He said to God I stutter. Moses was looking at his own ability and he could not see how he could go into Pharaoh and ask him to release the people of God. Yet, God was not looking at Moses through human eyes. God knew what he was going to do through Moses and inspite of his weaknesses or shortcomings, he was still going to do a wonderful work. God reassures Moses that he will be with him. God does the same for you and I today. He calls us to do some awesome things, but we become afraid and think, but who am I, I can't do that. God does not want you looking at things through your own eyes, but ask him to help you see through his. He wants to encourage you that you can complete the task because he will be with you.
Prayer: Lord today help me to realize whatever you call me to do, you will help me do it. You will be with me and you will give me the strength to accomplish and finish the job.
