Teaching Notes

The Lord wants his "children" to listen to his instructions. This is so that he can lead you and help you to grow up. Did this young girl stay a child? No. This sweet young girl, is now an eighteen year old young lady ready to go off to college. This is my oldest daughter, Joselyn. This is just an example of us. God does not want his children to stay infants. He wants to instruct us so that we can grow up, and go off into the world to make a difference. Are we growing up? Are we listening?

Does God Want to Talk to Me?
Psalm 25:4-5 (The Message)

Show me how you work, God; School me in your ways. Take me by the hand; Lead me down the path of truth. You are my Savior, aren't you?

Notes: The Psalmist is seeking God and ask God to teach him. The picture painted is, of a small child asking a parent to hold his or her hand. The writer goes on further in this scripture to say God you will help the misdirected find direction and the rejected to find your hand.

Question: Why is it important for God to "take you by the hand?"

Answer: Like a small child, if they are left on their own, will run after things that catch their attention and not see the dangers. A parent holds the child's hand so that they will always be able to "feel" the direction the parent wants to go. The parents hand applies pressure on the child's hand and they are able to know that their mother or father is going in a certain direction. This is why God wants us to "put our hand" into his. In other words we give ourselves to him and he will help us so that we do not go in ways that lead to danger. The Holy Spirit will apply pressure or conviction upon our hearts that this is not the direction of the Father so that we will turn and go in the right way. This is another sign of the importance of your time with God. God wants to talk to you so that he can show you what is the right way to go. He is truly the God of your salvation and because of it, he cares about where you go and what you do.

Prayer: God thank you for caring about what happens to me. If it were not for your favor upon me, I would be lost. Thank you for caring about talking to me. Help me Lord to always remember I am important to you.
